Elephant Nature Park
Posted by paul on August 11th, 2009 filed in Attractions, Day trips, tourist tipsLocated in Northern Thailand within less than 38 miles of Chiang Mai City and founded in the 1990s, the Elephant Nature Park is a unique conservation project that aims to provide a rescue centre as well as a sanctuary for endangered Thai elephants.
Today, the park is home to more than 30 distressed elephants coming from all over the country. Positioned in a wonderful natural valley, surrounded by a forested mountainous landscape and bordered by a river, this environment provides a timeless glimpse of Northern Thailand’s rural life.

The Elephant Nature Park has received many awards from institutions, such as the Smithsonian. In 2005, Time magazine named the founder ‘Asian Hero of the Year’ and numerous reputed international magazines published articles about the park, including National Geographic.
In addition, Elephant Nature Park featured in several documentaries from respected film production firms, such as Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and National Geographic.
Offices of the Elephant Nature Park can be found in Downtown Chiang Mai’s night bazaar area. Travellers can visit the Elephant Nature Park website for detailed information on the projects and much more.
