Meditation Courses in Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai is a popular place for visitors wishing to learn about Buddhism, and with so many historical temples located in and around Chiang Mai, it is arguably the best place to discover all about it. In addition to Chiang Mai’s many temples, the beautiful natural surrounds has meant that more and more visitors are looking to relax and learn the Buddhist art of meditation. There are now a number of temples set in amazing natural locations that offer the perfect chance to learn all about meditation whilst visiting Chiang Mai.

Courses in meditation are quite varied. At one end of the spectrum is a full 30-day course offered by Wat Rampoeng, where you will live like a monk. This will include taking a vow of silence, and refraining from eating after midday. The temple does not charge for this course, however, they do appreciate any donations. Accommodation is provided, and courses are open to men and women.

A more comfortable and less intimidating option for newcomers to meditation who want to experience a longer program like that at Wat Rampoeng can head to the newly opened course at Wat Doi Suthep. This program offers more comforts and runs for 21 days.

There is also the option to go the “The Middle Way”, which is a village devoted completely to mediation. It is a great place to come if you are very serious about meditation. This village has an absolutely stunning location, and the wilderness of this retreat-like village is very serene and peaceful.

These courses can easily be arranged when you arrive in Chiang Mai. A good way to find out about them is to simply speak to someone at one of the many temples you are likely to visit. Alternatively, the Chiang Mai Tourist Information Centres can provide you with all the information you need.
